A year ago, we set out on a journey across Pakistan, driven by a desire to experience the country for the first time and to reach one of the world’s most distinctive communities. The Kalash inhabit three secluded valleys nestled within the mountains along the Pakistani–Afghan border, where life appears to have remained largely untouched by the passage of time. We spent about a week among them, observing their traditions, listening to their stories, and gaining insight into their unique worldview. It was a region of Pakistan we had scarcely encountered before, and being there served as a powerful reminder that some of the world’s greatest beauty lies hidden in places only curiosity leads us to discover.
